Steam faced account issues last week leaves users vulnerable to hackers
Earlier last week, several rumours circulated that Sony and Microsoft’s gaming account service; the PSN and Xbox Live, are prone to hacking and could possibly be taken down before Christmas. The two did encounter some troubles on Christmas day but Valve’s Steam is subjected to a more dangerous issue.
Several users took to forums and the likes to report the issues they are facing in Steam. Some users have noted that the Steam homepage is displayed in a foreign language instead of their own. Another more dangerous issue involves the Account Details page of the users.
Some users have reported to have accessed the account of other users through the said page. Luckily, Valve was quick to respond to the potentially dangerous issue and has since taken measures to resolve it. A Valve representative confirmed to Gamespot that the issues are already done with and has noted that users need not do any additional actions to protect their accounts.
"This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users," said the Valve representative to Gamespot.
The issue is even considered more dangerous as the much-anticipated Steam Winter Sale is currently on-going. The problem with the Account Details page left many players vulnerable for a short period. During this period players could’ve been potentially robbed of what’s inside their Steam Wallet.
This isn’t the first time Steam has face potentially dangerous issues that could greatly affect the accounts of the users. Valve has since taken precautionary measures to assure the safety of the accounts. Their most recent step in account security is the added Steam Guard accounts. The Steam Guard adds another code to the account of players just in case it is logged-in from another device.
