The role of Rick Flagg in “Suicide Squad” has been left open for months ever since Tom Hardy’s exit and Jake Gyllenhaal turning down the offer. However, a recent report claims David Ayer has finally found his actor who can portray the character.

“Robocop” star Joel Kinnaman is said to be in talks to play Rick Flagg in “Suicide Squad.” Sources who have knowledge on David Ayer’s new film reportedly told The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider that Kinnaman “will replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg in Warner Bros.’ comic book adaptation.” Screengonzo, likewise, says the actor has already “read for the role and folks were impressed and expect the role to be offered to the young actor.” However, this casting has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros. According to Sneider, the studio did not give any comment regarding the report. Kinnaman’s representative also did not respond to requests for comments.

According to a previous report from the International Business Times Australia, finding the perfect actor to portray Rick Flagg in “Suicide Squad” has become a controversy as of late. Previous rumours suggested that Tom Hardy dropped out from the project because of his dissatisfaction over the revised script. The actor reportedly received the script in January and was unhappy with the lack of screen time given to his character as Will Smith’s Deadshot and Jared Leto’s The Joker were said to be given importance. His busy schedule filming “Mad Max: Fury Road” was supposedly also a conflict with his time filming for “Suicide Squad.”

However, Will Smith recently suggested that the holiday season could have been a major factor in Tom Hardy’s exit from the movie. In an interview with USA Today, the actor revealed David Ayer had turned in the script in December before Christmas. Hollywood reportedly “shuts down” during the holidays but Ayer wanted to move on with the film quickly. According to Will Smith, the movie director was still working since he wanted to start filming on April 13. However, Smith claimed it was already too late since it normally takes two weeks to start with production at the start of the year and by then people would have already signed up for other movies.

Joel Kinnaman is among the actors attached to the role of Rick Flagg in “Suicide Squad.” Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal were also rumoured for the part. The producers of the film have yet to officially confirm the actor to play the much talked-about role.
