Surface Pro 4 vs Apple iPad Pro comparison: Specs, features and price
Apple finally unveiled its newest and largest tablet ever, the iPad Pro. Microsoft is soon going to replace its very popular Surface Pro 3 by launching its successor, the Surface Pro 4. The Surface Pro 4 is expected to release in October and will come out swinging against its great rival, the Apple Pro.
Like the Surface Pro 3, the Apple iPad Pro can function as a desktop PC by connecting a mouse and a keyboard. Here’s a comparison of the rumoured specifications and features of the Surface Pro 4 compared to that of the Apple iPad Pro:
Dimensions And Display
The iPad Pro comes with 12.9-inch screen that offers a resolution of 2,048 x 2732 pixels. It produces a pixel count of 265 ppi and sports a very slim profile of 6.9 mm.
The Surface Pro 4 is said to have display options of 12 inches and 14 inches. One of the variants, however, is expected to support accessories of the Surface Pro 3. This indicates this variant will sport a very similar form factor to that of Surface Pro 3, The Verge reported.
Chipset, RAM and Storage
The Apple iPad Pro is equipped with the new A9X Apple chipset assisted by 4 GB of RAM. The Cupertino giant has not declared the CPU speed of the A9X chipset. The A9X is available in two storage options: 32 GB and 128 GB.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will feature the all new Skylake chipset. Hence, the device will be available in different CPU variants like Core i3, i5 and i7.
It will also come with different RAM options such as 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB. The base model of the Surface Pro 3 is 64 GB variant. The base model of the Surface Pro 4, however, will be the 128 GB variant, Tech Times reported.
Pricing and Availability
The Wi-Fi only editions of the iPad Pro that come in two storage options (32 GB and 128 GB) are available for $799 and $949, respectively. Apple is also selling a Wi-Fi + Cellular edition of the 128 GB model for $1,079.
Additional accessories like the Apple Pencil (stylus) and the Smart Keyboard are priced at $169 and $99, respectively. Buyers will be able to purchase the Apple iPad Pro from November.
Tech Times reports the Surface Pro 4 with a 12-inch screen may cost $800 for the base model whereas the starting model of the 14-inch Surface Pro 4 will cost from $900 or $950. The Surface Pen stylus comes bundled with the device.
This means users won’t need to spend extra money to buy it. Users will have to pay extra for Type Cover keyboard and docking station, however. Speculation has it the Surface Pro 4 release date is Oct. 10, said the International Business Times.
