Surface Pro, the tablet that has been cited twice by tech experts as the best Windows tablet, will soon be available to Australians by May. Besides Australia, Microsoft said the device would also be shipped to 23 other countries in May and June.

When the Surface Pro tablet was first shipped in February, initial destinations were only the U.S., Canada and China. Its limited availability is probably one reason why sales were below expectations despites techies raving about the device's features such as its Intel Core i5 processor and Windows 8 OS.

Besides Australia, Microsoft will ship the tablet to New Zealand, Hong Kong, UK, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Switzerland in May.

By June, the device will be available in South Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore and Thailand.

The Surface Pro with 64GB storage has a price tag of $899 while the 128GB is at $999. Given that Australia has a GST, then the likely price of the device when sold down under would be $999 for the 64GB model and $1,099 for the 128GB model. The prices excludes the keyboard cover that sells for $119 and $129.

Mexico receives its first shipment of the Surface Pro on Thursday, April 25.
