Time Magazine Names Kim Kardashian As One Of The '30 Most Influential People On The Internet'
Kim Kardashian is once again in news as she has been named by Time Magazine as one of the “30 Most Influential People On The Internet.” The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star joins other Hollywood celebrities including artists Justin Bieber, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, author J.K. Rowling and the U.S. President Barack Obama, to name a few.
So what makes Kim Kardashian so influential? According to Time, her influence stems from her popularity on social media. On Instagram “she has perfected the art of the selfie: some with famous friends, some in luxurious bathrooms, and all to the delight of her 27 million followers,” the publication wrote on its Web site.
According to the publication, the 34-year old model and mother “also deftly uses Twitter to define and defend her own narrative.” The site noted her previous statements against bashers who had criticised her for cropping her daughter’s face out of a selfie, "Her eyes were closed and I was feeling my look! Can I live?!?”
Lastly, Kim Kardashian is believed to also be influential because of her different business ventures. Her “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” game reportedly landed her the second spot as one of Time Magazine’s most-influential fictional character of 2014. According to Huffington Post, Kim has developed her own brand and knows that the only way to further leverage it would be through the Internet. Suffice to say, there would be no Kim Kardashian without the Internet.
Kim Kardashian made headlines with her “Break the Internet” cover for Paper magazine, where she was seen fully naked. During her interview with the publication, Kim highlighted the influence and advantages social media has on her “cultural relevance.” According to Huffington Post, the reality TV star gave social media credit for her popularity, citing “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” as example. Kim said back when the show started, social media wasn’t that heavy. However, the birth of Twitter and Instagram, to name a few, reportedly “evolved” the show.
Likewise, Kim Kardashian admitted during an interview with Adweek that social media for her is her means of sharing her life with the world. It’s supposedly how she gives her many followers a glimpse into her life.
