Top 5 PS4 Problems and Fixes: Blinking Blue Light, Red Light of Death, HDMI issues and More
[UPDATE: 4 more problems and fixes found for the PS4, including ejecting discs and endless installation loops.]
Sony's PS4 is now considered as one of the fastest selling consoles in the U.S., garnering a total of 1 million units sold in only one day. With regular sales expected to hit retail stores and the upcoming launch for Europe in Nov. 29, it's likely that the figures will increase dramatically.
But there have also been several reports of PS4 problems and issues from a lot of gamers, and though Sony has confirmed that it is already hard at work in investigating the issues, some users have tried to look for fixes for what could be the top five issues of the PS4.
The Pulsating/Blinking Blue Light
One of the most feared issues of the PS4 is the blinking blue light, which indicates that the console is not powering on. In the community forums of PlayStation.com, the issue is connected to the blue indicator light that's blinking, lack of video or audio output on the TV, and the eventual powering off of the console.
If you have experienced this, then you can try some of the fixes suggested in the forums to see if they can work. These include troubleshooting TV capability (for those without audio or video displays for the PS4), troubleshooting the hard drive, troubleshooting for software installation, and power supply trouble shooting.

HDMI issues
The issue of the pulsing blue light has also been reported in one website, although this had a surprisingly easier fix compared to the one mentioned above.
According to VG 24/7, if you're experiencing the blue light, it can also mean that the HDMI port may have an issue, not necessarily your PS4 console.
It may be that your HDMI port is mismatched, hence not connecting all the way. Even if this is the problem, it is more alarming to note that the PS4 has a simple manufacturing issue like this, considering that it is one of the biggest projects of the company. Admittedly, the console is not perfect, but to have to encounter HDMI issues because of a mismatch in port connections does not serve to appease some users.
Supposedly, the PS4 can be played when connected with the Xbox One. How will that go considering all the issues that are now cropping out with regard to the PS4's connectivity issues?
PlayStation Network Connectivity Problems
Since the launch of the PS4, there has been a high volume of gamers who have tried logging onto the PlayStation Network and seemingly failed. But considering the sheer number of people who have ordered the PS4 and are trying to connect to the PSN to download the 1.50 firmware, it's not surprising that the Sony's servers are overwhelmed.
"PSN seeing very high volume, some gamers may experience difficulty connecting, thanks for your patience," was the response from the support site's official Twitter in relation to network issues.
In a report from IGN, Sony has already confirmed that it has been working the kinks, but as the launch still continues, it's likely that it will take some time before the network gets up and running smoothly enough.

Red Light of Death
After the Blue Light issue, there have also been some reported cases of the Red Light of Death, which points to overheating issues for the PS4.
While this has been found during demo shows and supposedly denied by Sony, some PS4 users have taken it to Reddit to discuss the matter. Several reports have also stated that the Red Light can be seen while booting up on safe mode or just a few minutes after being taken out of the box and used.
In Reddit, speculations point to either defective fans and sensors that detect faulty fans.
"If the fans don't turn on, it takes a very small amount of time for the system to overheat," said factually_accurate_1.
"It's telling you that the PS4 is overheating. Just turn it off and keep it off until it cools down. The PS4 needs space, and a lot of air so put it in a suitable place. From what I gathered, it might also be a problem with the BIOS and the fans," said Internetzhero.
Here's a video of the Red Light of Death in action. According to YouTube user seanmcc09, "Fans never turn on causing the red light and overheating."
Hard drive incompatibility issues
It was previously reported that even though the PS4 does not have support for external storage, it has been confirmed that you can replace the hard drive for your PS4. However, PlayStation Universe has noted that there has been an error that regarding an updated file that is related with the replacement of the original 500 GB hard drive of the PS4 with an unsupported one.
The only possible way to remedy this would be to either revert back to the original hard drive that comes with your PS4 or make sure that you get a model that is compatible with the console.
Gamepur provides a list of PS4-compatible hard drives, which include the following: 2 TB HDD Coming Soon, Lenovo ThinkPad 1T 5400 RPM 3.0 Gb/s, Seagate 1T Solid State Hybrid Drive 5400 RPM 6.0 Gb/s, and the HGST Travelstar 1.5T 5K 1500 2.5-inch Mobile 5400 RPM 6.0 Gb/s models.
