“True Blood” has a whole bunch of happening in its season-ender, with fangs and deaths galore. The U.S. HBO show has just concluded its sixth season, and, as true to its tradition, it has resolved issues but with enough cliff hangers that kept its viewers wanting for more.

The most talked about scene of the night is probably Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgard) full nudity and possible death. But before that, let’s recap what has happened and why it led to that fascinating yet shocking scene.

Episode 10 (titled “Radioactive”) opened up with Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Alcide (Joe Manganiello) at Terry Bellefleur’s (Todd Lowe) funeral and noticing a daytime vampire party at Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) place. The vampires were celebrating naked under the sun because it’s the first time in perhaps centuries that they were able to feel sunlight on their skin.

Bill, meanwhile, lost his superpowers after he let his fellow vampires feed off him to save them. He was still brooding when his progeny Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) came over to him, but he was apparently also upset with himself for allowing Warlow (Rob Kazinsky) to turn Sookie into a vampire. Jessica was able to let him see the error in his decision, though, and, together with Violet and Adilyn, they accessed the faerie realm to save Sookie.

And they were just in time. Sookie really needed saving after Warlow turned out to be a real bad guy after all. All she asked was if they could start anew and date for a while before getting married, but the centuries-old vampire/faerie didn’t have time for such niceties so he proceeded to physically abuse the main heroine and bite her. Fortunately, the gang was able to save her before she turned.

And oh, grandpa Niall (Rutger Hauer) had a very timely re-entrance to the mortal world after being trapped into the dark dimension for several episodes. He reached through the portal in Sookie’s bathroom and hold Warlow when the latter gave chase, allowing Jason (Ryan Kwanten) to stake him.

Warlow’s death should be a happy ending for all, but that also meant that the fae blood that the vampires drank and which allowed them to walk under the sun had worn off. That was night time, though, so all the partying vampires in the morning were safe when their day-walking power was lost.

Unfortunately, the same is not the case for Eric, and that’s where the viewers were given an astounding glimpse of his manhood during his brief sunbathing scene. He was somewhere atop a mountain in Sweden, basking fully nude under the sun when his ability wore off. He appeared to go up in flames before the scene was cut.

So did he meet his true death? No one knew for sure, and the show didn’t even give viewers a hint if that were truly so. Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) left earlier to look for him, though, so perhaps she was able to save him after all?

Cut to six months later, Bill became an author. His “And God Bled” aimed to restore the “trust” between human and vampires. Arlene (Carrie Preston) is now the owner of Merlotte’s, which is now called Bellefleur’s, after her husband Terry. And Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) became the mayor.

Sam and Bill offered human citizens to pair with a healthy vampire for protection while the search for a vaccine for the Hep-V virus in vampires is on.

Sookie and Alcide at last became an item, but just when things seemed to go right with all of them (except for the errant Eric), a horde of zombie vampires (those infected with mutated Hep-V) came threatening the peace.

And that’s the end of season six.

“True Blood” season six-ender was aired Sunday night in the U.S. and on Monday night in Australia. The show is slated to start its seventh season in 2014.
