The former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz wanted an opportunity for a huge fight, so Dana White gave it to him. Unfortunately, he didn’t win. Following his defeat against Anderson Silva at UFC 183, the UFC president discussed his future with the promotion.

“I don’t think it’s about what I think is going to happen to Nick Diaz. Who knows what Nick’s going to do,” White said. “Nick made a lot of money tonight. You might not see him for 3 years this time.”

Diaz, who came back from a semi-retirement for the big payday and the opponent, lasted all five rounds. He may have stolen the fourth, and the fifth was quite close, but there were small windows when he got into his rhythms in the second and third, which he failed to sustain.

After the fight, Nick Diaz revealed that he thought that he won all five rounds. Although he did not win, the 31-year-old did not get smoked in any of those five rounds as well. The American fighter out-entertained Silva consistently for 25 minutes.

After the fight and before leaving the cage, Nick Diaz left a message, which could be him saying goodbye. He revealed that he’s been fighting for a long time and he loves people, training and how the sport has evolved into what it is today. He went on to say that he loves his fans and he is grateful for everything.

Nick Diaz earned a disclosed $500,000 in his unanimous decision loss to Silva. The amount is a $300,000 increase from his previous fight, a title fight loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 158.

Meanwhile, Anderson Silva revealed the possibility of retirement after the UFC 183. The emotional Silva broke down in tears after his victory and claimed that it was what he wanted after more than a year of hard work. However, the Brazilian said that he will consult this family first about deciding on retirement, after his son asked him to stop fighting already.
