Undefeated Boxer Keith Thurman Calls Out Mayweather, Says Floyd Only Cares About 'Money'
Keith “One Time” Thurman has called out Floyd Mayweather in another attempt to land a fight with the undefeated boxer saying a heavy statement that the latter’s only interest is “money, not legacy, not anything else.” Thurman, who is also undefeated with a record of 25-0 to go along with 21 knockouts, is arguably one the best boxers in the sport.
The 26-year-old knockout specialist has been campaigning for more than two years to get his chance to fight “The Money.” Thurman ripped Mayweather for picking up Karim Mayfield, who lost two of his past three bouts, as one of his potential opponents for his last fight in September. He said that Mayweather’s plan to fight an opponent as inexperienced as Mayfield shows he cares more about his money than his legacy, according to Business Insider.
“As soon as that man nicknamed himself ‘Money’ it’s apparent what his interest is. It’s money. Not legacy, not anything else man. He’s all about the money. He wants to throw out a name like Karim Mayfield man? Like you know what I’m saying? Look at his record, look what he’s done. And you want to say Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman isn’t ready?” Thurman said via Tha Boxing Voice.
Thurman has built a reputation in the field of boxing with a perfect undefeated record. He has quickly dominated the welterweight division after defeating Roberto Guerrero, Leondard Bundu, and Julio Diaz. The WBA welterweight regular champion is currently placed by ESPN as fourth in the division rankings. Despite his intense determination to fight Mayweather, Thurman admitted that he will pattern his career to Mayweather’s boxing achievements stating that he will follow the footsteps of the future hall of famer.
During the Thurman-Collazo media day in Tampa, Florida on Thursday, Thurman let the boxing world know about Mayweather’s move to avoid a possible Thurman-Mayweather fight. He said that the undefeated champion has thrown Errol Spence’s name in the mix as a distraction for the boxing fans to not talk about a “Money-One Time” matchup.
“You can call it a distraction you know he (Mayweather) is throwing in a distraction so that they (Boxing Fans) will stop talking about me and him (Mayweather) and now they will start talking about me and Errol,” Thurman said via Boxingnews24.com.
Thurman will defend his secondary WBA welterweight title against Luis Collazo, who carries a record of 36-6 with 19 knockouts, on Saturday night. The two will fight in the main event of the Premiere Boxing Champions series at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida.
