UPDATE: Salim Mehajer denies wife Aysha applied for AVO against him; 'Only death will do us apart'
Update: Salim Mehajer denied on Tuesday that his wife has filed an AVO against him. He claimed that the police are the ones pursuing for an AVO against him, insisting that his marriage to Aysha is forever.
“The police seem to have nothing better to do then (sic) follow our footsteps,” he told news.com.au. “As mentioned before, only death will do us apart (sic).”
A courting listing on the NSW Online Registry shows that there is indeed an apprehended violence application by Sgt Michael McClafferty for Aysha Amelia Learmonth.
Original story
Aysha Mehajer has applied for apprehended violence order against her husband, former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer. The AVO comes just days after the suspended councillor posted about his love for his wife on Facebook, and after months of speculation about their dwindling relationship.
According to Fairfax Media, officers from the Sydney City Local Area Command received an application for an AVO against Mehajer on Monday. Aysha, who changed her name from April Learmonth when she married Mehajer in August 2015, has used her maiden name in the application.
Officers representing Learmonth will file the application against Mehajer on Wednesday.
Days before Learmonth applied for the AVO, Mehajer has appeared to be either in denial or oblivious to his wife’s plan. He had posted photos of them together, gushing about his love for her.
“You put the smile on my face, the sparky in my eyes and the Love in my heart,” he captioned the image.
The couple’s relationship has been rumoured to have ended months prior. In April, police were reportedly called to a domestic violence incident at Learmonth’s sister’s Wollongong house after he was apparently heard screaming and banging at the door.
Their lavish wedding in August, which featured a motorcade of luxury sports car and four helicopters, had led to streets being shut down in western Sydney, as well as Mehajer being fined by the Auburn City Council over the chaos it brought.
This is not Mehajer’s only AVO against him. He is also facing another AVO application filed by Bruce Herat, the father of Sydney Siege survivor, Joel Herat. In October, Bruce, who worked as a personal trainer at the Anytime Fitness on Railway Parade in Burwood, claimed Mehajer threatened him and said he would kidnap his children.

Another AVO filed against him is from Ben Miller, reportedly his brother-in-law. The matter will be heard later this month.
Mehajer, a property developer, had been ordered to be suspended for four months in September for failing to disclose his financial interests in a property he owned. The whole Auburn City Council was suspended in February to make way for a public inquiry examining allegations that some councillors had been misusing their positions.
