An interesting character is headed to Mystic Falls in the second half of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5. In the E! Online spoiler report, it looks like Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) will be having a new best friend in new gay character Luke that will appear for a major arc in the CW TV series.

"A new hottie is enrolling at Whitmore after winter break! And he'll be spending time with Caroline! Except he's so not into her in that way as Luke, handsome and sarcastic, is gay. And also happens to have a sister on campus, one that he will do (or sacrifice) anything to protect," reads the report.

Luke is reported to make his first appearance in the still untitled Episode 16 of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5. No details were given yet as to which actor will portray the part or whether Luke will be a good guy or a bad guy bringing trouble to Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley) or Elena (Nina Dobrev).

It will be an interesting arc in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 especially when its spin-off series "The Originals" has introduced the gay character Josh (Steven Krueger) in its freshman season. Josh arrived in New Orleans with his friend Tina to have some fun while partying in clubs but unfortunately ended in the hands of Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) as his night walker vampire.

The character had an interesting role in "The Originals" when Klaus (Joseph Morgan) compelled him to spy on Marcel as the vampire-werewolf hybrid worked on his plan to overthrow Marcel's reign in New Orleans. Going back to "The Vampire Diaries" new character, Luke could be a good companion to blonde vampire Caroline as she remains ill-fated when it comes to love in Season 5.

"That's a joke in the 100th episode. When it comes out about Stefan and Katherine sleeping together, Caroline's like, 'What?! Why the heck am I the only one not getting any?' Hopefully, we'll find her somebody new," revealed TVD executive producer Caroline Dries in the TV Line report.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 is set to return to the CW network on January 23, 2014 with the 100th episode titled "500 Years of Solitude."
