Verizon Wireless has abruptly decided to cancel the launch of Sony Xperia Z4v in the U.S. The Verizon-exclusive device was announced back in June with upgrades over the international Xperia Z3+ and Japan-only Xperia Z4.

“The decision was made after we have taken into consideration such factors as the competitive landscape and launch timing,” said a company spokeswoman, as reported by CNET.

With support from Verizon, the Japanese electronics giant aimed to have a huge impact in the U.S. smartphone market with the new Xperia Z4v, which touts the ability to stream and remotely play PS4 games. Users can screen PlayStation 4 games controlled by a Remote Play system and wireless controllers connected via Bluetooth.

The cancellation will prove to be a massive disappointment for Sony. Verizon Wireless, however, will continue to support the existing products of Sony Mobile.

“Sony is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio,” said Verizon on its official website.

The water-resistant Android smartphone features a 5.2-inch QHD display with 2,560x1, 440 pixels. The device is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 3 GB of RAM and houses a massive 3,000mAh battery that includes Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology.

The 20.7 MP rear camera touts an Exmor RS image sensor and is capable of recording 4K video. Additionally, the 5 MP front snapper has a 25 mm wide-angle lens.

According to The Verge, Sony Mobile will remain dedicated to the smartphone market in the U.S. despite the cancellation. It also aims “to build a sound and stable business in this region.”

In the meantime, the Japanese tech giant announced the Xperia Z5 series, including the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, and the Xperia Z5 Premium, at IFA 2015. Verizon Wireless hasn’t yet confirmed if they will carry Sony’s Z5 family of smartphones.
