Microsoft’s new Windows 10 Mobile OS with futuristic features like Continuum is reportedly headed to older handsets with Windows Phone 8.1 on board. Vodafone Australia is now testing the compatibility of the new OS with a handful of Lumia devices.

Microsoft’s latest flagship Lumia 950 and its jumbo sibling, Lumia 950 XL, come bundled with Windows 10 Mobile straight out of the box. Many customers across the globe with Windows Phone 8.1 powered devices, however, are still waiting to get a glimpse of the new firmware on their handsets.

Not long ago, Microsoft promised the OS will be rolled out “before Christmas” for selected handsets. Now, WM Power User corroborates this news further by saying the latest OS will be rolled out in December i.e. within the next two weeks.

Many carriers are apparently testing Windows 10 on unlocked models. Some Australian carriers like Vodafone Australia, however, have given away the schedule. According to the report, the new OS is being tested on the following devices: Nokia Lumia 930, Nokia Lumia 730, Microsoft Lumia 640, Microsoft Lumia 640 XL and Nokia Lumia 630.

Not to forget, Microsoft also recently released a "cumulative update" to the final Windows 10 Mobile OS build. The latest and final build tied to the number 10586.29 reportedly comes packed with bug fixes and security updates, Phone Arena noted.

Speaking of OS adoption rate, pointed out that Windows 10 Mobile OS is now part of a total of seven percent of Windows Phone powered devices across the globe, said Phone Arena citing an AdDuplex report.

It’s a known fact the Android OS is facing fragmentation issues. Apparently, the same issue washandled by Apple in a much better way. on The other hand, Microsoft is making headway at a relatively slower pace.
