The Voice Australia: A Full Chapter for Delta Goodrem
Will the same mentors sign for The Voice second season?
The Voice Australia is barely a week away from crowning its first champion. Oddly, the media has covered the show's mentor Delta Goodrem more than the singing competition and its contestants throughout the first season.
Since The Voice premiered in April, Goodrem has drawn both flak and acclaim for the way she has done her job in the show. As her name kept popping in the Aussie entertainment headlines, her personal life has been brought to the surface as well.
The combined features on other mentors - Keith Urban, Seal and Joel Madden - will not make half of what has been covered by the media about Delta Goodrem. There was also less goss on Jennifer Lopez during her last stint at American Idol, which lasted four months.
Goodrem graced the cover of Vogue, sat down in 60 Minutes and released her single "Sitting on Top of the World" while doing the show. From being an "expensive piece of tinsel" to copying Arcade Fire's music to her past relationships, Goodrem has answered a vast array of questions on her career and personal life the past two months. The Voice has become more of Delta Goodrem's jouney than any contestant's story.
Rachael Leahcar, the fan favorite contestant, has also been frequently featured in the news and searched online since her dramatic La Vie En Rose rendition during the blind auditions. Yet even Leahcar, who belongs to Team Delta, has openly said Goodrem is an inspiration to her life and career.
"I cried so much during #60mins with (Delta Goodrem), I grew up with you, you are such an inspiration. Thank you for everything #ILoveYou," Leahcar tweeted after the June 3rd airing of Goodrem's interview at 60 Minutes.
Whether good or bad, publicity has gravitated towards Goodrem, and the first season of The Voice Australia is enough to mark a full chapter in her life. The question now is: Would the Aussies see her again in The Voice next season?
During a press conference Wednesday, Joel Madden told the media all the mentors are keen on going back next season, but they have yet to receive word on contract signing.
"We all want to be here (for series two), but we have no information," Madden said.
Having seen that Goodrem's life is now so closely linked to The Voice, her fans and critics may be in for another season of Delta Goodrem, err, The Voice. As for the other mentors, things can go either way.
