“The Whispers” has scored a new high percentage rate for playback views. While this may seem good news for the show, a Season 2 is still up in the air.

Based on ABC’s Live + 3 Day data for Monday, July 6, “The Whispers” gained its highest score of playback increase yet of among adults within the age range of 18 to 49. There is an increase of 63 percent compared to the show’s Live+ Same Day, or L+SD, rating. The result immediately placed the show at the number one spot on playback gainer on the broadcast networks among the age bracket mentioned above.

Episode 6 in Season 1 of “The Whispers,” titled “The Archer," was aired on July 6. It was reportedly widely received by viewers especially among young adults. The Futon Critic announced the percentage “grew to a 1.3 L+3 rating among young adults, up week to week by 8%.” In the L+SD numbers the show’s percentage was even with Week 1. Monday, July 13, also received a nine percent rating within the same age bracket of 18 to 49. Variety claimed it was by far the show's "best score in three outings.”

The DVR or playback viewing has so far increased. Deadline mentioned an increase of two million viewers, gaining the show a total of more than six million viewers.

However, despite the increase in weekly playback ratings the fate of “The Whispers” having a Season 2 is still uncertain. One of the factors considered in determining whether a second season will happen is the live ratings. According to reports, the show struggled to attract viewers for its Live+ Same Day numbers.

It’s widely speculated that Season 2 for “The Whispers” will not happen considering also the casting options. The casts’ contract had reportedly expired last June and despite ABC asking for a two-week extension, some of the casts were reportedly not happy with the show.

Lily Rabe, who plays Claire Bennigan, has already expressed her decision to fully leave the show. “The Whispers” may reportedly also lose Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Sean Bennigan, to a lead role in “Shooter.” ABC has yet to announce any updates on the likelihood of a Season 2 for “The Whispers.”
