World’s First ‘Corning Gorilla Glass 4’ Protected Smartphone Is Samsung Galaxy Alpha, Purchase Now For $555
Corning, the durable glassmaker that produces tough glass cover for smartphone displays, has apparently struck a deal with Samsung for its brand new Gorilla Glass 4. Touted as the Apple iPhone 6 competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is the first device to flaunt Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.
Aside from housing the latest display protection technology, Samsung has provided an ultra-thin body for the Galaxy Alpha. To be specific, the thickness of the handset stands at only 0.27-inch/7 mm. Notably, the screen's front glass panel is only 0.016-inch thick i.e. 0.4 mm. Needless to say, this combination provides impressive toughness to slimness ratio, notes Phone Arena.
According to Corning, the Gorilla Glass 4 is the most damage-resistant glass cover the company has produced till date. If reports are true, this glass dramatically improves the protection ratio of the device from accidental falls. Apparently, Corning's reliability experts studied hundreds of broken devices to ascertain the reasons behind broken Corning glasses. This examination reportedly helped the company to come up with an improved glass cover.
Based on the conclusion, the damage induced by surface-contact stood at a whopping 70 percent plus failures. Therefore, the company has built a brand new glass cover, which is both thinner and sturdier, to counter the problem.
Speaking of Galaxy Alpha, the 4.7-inch device comes with a sleek profile, complemented by metallic construction, unlike other plastic phones of Samsung. And hence, the device is rightly pitted against the similar 4.7-inch, metal-clad Apple iPhone 6 smartphone. The Alpha's 4.7-inch display is bundled with 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution to provide crystal-clear display.
Under the hood, the device is powered by Samsung's Exynos 5 chipset and hence, the device supports Cat. 6 LTE. Other key features include 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, no microSD card support, Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS, Li-Ion 1860 mAh battery unit, 12 MP primary camera with LED flash, 2.1 MP front-facing shooter and lastly, the much-loved Fingerprint scanner support.
As far as the pricing goes, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection can be purchased for $555.55 in Amazon. Interested readers should check out this video of Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to get more information on the enhancements.
