Fans finally have their first look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as the mutant Nightcrawler in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” The actor also recently talked about what viewers can expect to see from his portrayal of the character in the film.

Both “X-Men: Apocalypse” director Bryan Singer and Kodi Smit-McPhee shared a photo providing the first look at Nightcrawler. Singer on his Twitter post captioned the image, “Catch him before he’s gone,” and McPhee instantly did so and shared the same shot on his Instagram page. However, both photos have since been removed shortly after it was posted. Thankfully, Entertainment Weekly managed to grab a copy with a clearer image resolution. A video of the character has also been shared on YouTube, which shows Nightcrawler seemingly teleporting on screen.

Kodi Smit-McPhee once said during an interview with Den of Geek that his portrayal of Nightcrawler in “X-Men: Apocalypse” will stay true to the comicbook character. The actor teased the mutant will still have “all of the traditional things,” although didn’t further elaborate on his statement.

According to Galactic News One, McPhee said his version will be more fun and entertaining as it will be inspired by the original source material. Kodi Smit-McPhee said during his interview that his portrayal of Nightcrawler in “X-Men: Apocalypse” will show the fun, happy and “swashbuckling Nightcrawler” that comicbook fans love. The 18-year old also assured his version of the mutant in the film will be very different from Alan Cumming’s portrayal of the character in “X-Men 2.”

"I realize the Nightcrawler that is portrayed in X2 is one that has been through quite a bit more and has really embraced the superhero part of him—a kind of violent part. Whereas I think what they’re trying to show here [“X-Men: Apocalypse”] is the more vulnerable Nightcrawler and the one we all kind of related to in the comics,” he said.

To brush up on his knowledge of the mutant, Kodi Smit-McPhee previously revealed in an interview with Superhero Hype that he’s basically been reading up on Nightcrawler’s story from the comics. He admitted to have done lots of research as well on anyone who has portrayed the character in the live movies and even in cartoons. In the same interview, he revealed that he’s always been Bryan Singer’s choice to play as Nightcrawler in “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
