Xbox One Gets Price Drop In Europe And New Mode Settings; Xbox 360 Up For 2TB HD Support
There’s another reason for Xbox fans in Europe to get an Xbox One console, if they haven’t yet. A new announcement from Microsoft U.K. has confirmed that the Xbox One has received yet another price drop for the region. From £349, the Xbox One now sells in Europe for £299.
Gamepur has spotted the announcement, which stated that the price drop will be available only for a limited time and in the U.K. only. The statement mentions that the price drop promo anticipates the release of titles including “Batman: Arkham Knight,” “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,” “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Halo 5: Guardians,” among others.
If that’s not enough of a reason to buy an Xbox One, Microsoft has recently addressed two main problem that users are having with the Xbox One. Users can now choose their priorities when it comes to the Xbox One—functionality or less energy consumption. Announced via the Xbox Wire, Xbox One users can now choose between two modes to use for their devices.
Functionality is answered by the Instant-on mode, which will allow for the Xbox One to download content and be updated even when the console is not actively used. This will make the SmartGlass feature even more applicable, as users can purchase games and have them downloaded on the Xbox One at home. With Instant-on, users can cut down on waiting time.
For those who are more concerned with power consumption, the Energy-saving mode setting allows the user to cut down as much as $6 to $15 in term of energy fees. But this mode will take away the feature mentioned above.
Even with the all the updates for Microsoft’s next-gen console, that does not mean that the Xbox 360 has been left in the dust. Those who have signed up for the Xbox 360 preview program, which is similar to the Xbox One preview program, now have a chance to explore the next update firsthand.
The update, according to Major Nelson, will provide support for 2T hard drive storage for the Xbox 360. The device will also no longer require the use of reserve space in advance for the hard drive. The general public will also receive the update, though Microsoft did not provide a definite timeline that’s more specific than “this year.”
