The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was announced at an exclusive launch event on Nov. 24 and was revealed alongside the Redmi Note 3 handset. The Mi Pad 2 is now up on preorders on Gear Best with a starting price of $241 (AU$329)

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was launched to replace the older Mi Pad tablet that came out last year. The older model came with polycarbonate construction, but the successor model sports a full-metallic design. Moreover, the weight and thickness of the Mi Pad 2 tablet has been reduced to 322 grams and 7 mm.

The tablet comes with a large screen of 7.9-inches that carries support for 1536 x 2048 pixels. It supports a pixel density of 326 ppi. The Xiaomi MI Pad 2 is powered by Intel Atom Z5-8500 chipset that features a quad-core processor working at 2.24 GHz along with Intel HD graphics. According to Mobi Picker, the tablet has managed to record 85,101 on AnTuTu benchmarks.

The Intel chip of the Mi Pad 2 is supported by 2 GB of RAM. It’s available in multiple internal storage options of 16 GB and 64 GB. The device comes preloaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop modified by Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 software. Xiaomi has also built another variant of the tablet with 64 GB internal storage that runs the Windows 10 operating system.

The rear of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 features an 8 MP camera and houses a front-facing camera of 5 MP. It comes with a USB Type-C connectivity port. Since it’s not a GSM device, there is no SIM card slot. It does provide connectivity features like Wi-Fi and v4.1 Bluetooth. The device is packed with a massive battery of 6,190 mAh capacity that carries support for fast charging through the USB Type-C port.

It’s up for preorders on Gear Bestin gold and silver color options with a price tag of $241 (AU$329) for the 16 GB variant. The last date to preorder the Mi Pad 2 is Dec. 20. The Chinese retailer is also providing free shipping service to worldwide purchasers.
