Recently, Chinese smartphones are making huge impact in the global markets with Xiaomi leading the pack. The flagship Xiaomi Mi4 was released in August. Meanwhile, the brand new Meizu MX4 has recently been introduced and the international pre-order window has started already. Readers who are interested in purchasing the Xiaomi Mi4 or the latest Meizu MX4 should check out this comparison.

Display, Exterior And Size

The Meizu MX4 features a 5.36-inch IPS LCD display and 1,152 x 1,920 pixels resolution, whereas the Xiaomi Mi4 handset comes with a relatively smaller 5.0-inch display and 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. The pixel densities of the Xiaomi and Meizu smartphones stand at 441 ppi and 418 ppi, respectively.

When it comes to exterior design, the Xiaomi device looks a lot like Apple iPhones with the same stainless steel band covering the sides of the handset. Especially, the white plastic fixers embedded on the metallic band are very much Apple-like. Despite housing a shiny plastic rear shell, the metal frame provides premium look to the device. In general, the Mi4 looks stunning from the outside, CNet writes.

The Meizu MX4, meanwhile, has a rounded back panel, hence it gives good grip and feels solid on the hands. Impressively, the company has cut down the unnecessary bezels on the display of the MX4. Along with the soft plastic chassis, there is a metal frame covering the device, giving it a high-rank in the aesthetics department. Plus, the power and volume rockers are also made of metal. Generally speaking, the exterior elevates the handset to a whole new level, says Phone Arena.

Speaking of size, the thickness and weight of the latest Meizu smartphone are 0.35-inch and 149 g respectively, whereas the Xiaomi device is 0.35-inch thick and weighs 147 g. Therefore, both the handsets are virtually same in the size department.

Hardware, Software And Memory

The Xiaomi Mi4 is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz and backed by a killer 3 GB of RAM. The Meizu MX4, on the other hand, is powered by an octa-core (MediaTek MT6595) processor, clocked at a combination of four 2.2 GHz Cortex-A17 cores and four 1.7 GHz Cortex-A7 cores and 2 GB of RAM. Moreover, the Xiaomi handset runs on Android v4.4.3 KitKat OS with the company's MIUI on top of it, while the Meizu handset runs on Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS along with Meizu's Flyme 4.0.

When it comes to memory, Xiaomi offers 16 GB and 64 GB of in-built storage, while the Meizu MX4 comes equipped with 16/32/64 GBs of storage. However, both the handsets do not support expandable storage.

Camera And Battery

The Meizu MX4 features a killer 20.7 MP primary camera unit with dual-LED flash, whereas the Xiaomi Mi4 sports a good 13 MP rear-facing camera unit with dual-LED flash. In addition, the Xiaomi handset houses an impressive 8 MP front-facing unit for selfies, while the Meizu handset settles for 2 MP. Moving on to battery configuration, the Xiaomi device comes equipped with a powerful 3080 mAh unit, whereas the Meizu handset houses a similar 3100 mAh battery unit.

Additional Features

1. Both the handsets employ micro-SIM. Moreover, the Xiaomi Mi4 supports Infrared port, whereas the Meizu handset doesn't. But none of them support NFC. Going by GizChina's report, only 1% of global customers use NFC, therefore Xiaomi dropped the support for NFC in its flagship Mi4.

2. It is worth mentioning that, the Xiaomi handset supports WCDMA at this point. Meanwhile, "LTE Xiaomi Mi4" has recently been launched in China for $325-equivalent. However, a new model is expected to hit the store shelves towards the end of this year with international LTE support. The Meizu MX4, on the other hand, supports 4G LTE.

Price

The Meizu MX4 is priced at US$449 (i.e. AU$512). Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi4 can be purchased for US$384.99 (i.e. AU$439) in Oppomart.
