Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 vs. Redmi Note: With 5.7-Inch Display, LTE, 3,600-mAh Battery And 64-Bit SoC, Note 2 Is A Killer Device For $249
The well-received Xiaomi Redmi Note will likely be getting its successor called "Xiaomi Redmi Note 2" on Jan. 15, 2015. During the launch event, scheduled in Beijing, the company is expected to introduce its flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi5. But then, the online retailer Oppomart has already listed a new Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 handset with specifications and price, prior to the scheduled Thursday launch event.
Therefore, the Note 2 will likely get introduced alongside the Mi5. So here is the comparison of specifications, features and price pertaining to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note.
Display And Design
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 will reportedly come with a 5.7-inch display, bundled with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note features a 5.5-inch display and 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution. The new device is also reported to feature 2.5D glass that curves at the corners. Plus, the back panel of the handset will also be made of glass, sporting the "world's first curved glass body," notes GSM Arena.
The Redmi Note, on the other hand, comes with glossy rear panel and therefore, the handset looks quite slippery. Nonetheless, the handset is not very wide and the sides are slightly curved and therefore, the grip is not as bad as it was perceived to be, says NDTV. Furthermore, the glass on the back is reportedly surrounded by a marginally raised black plastic edging.
Under The Hood
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is reported to be powered by the latest 64-bit (Qualcomm Snapdragon 615) octa-core processor, whereas the Redmi Note utilises a (Mediatek MT6592) octa-core processor. Plus, the Redmi Note 2 will reportedly be backed by a modest 2 GB of RAM configuration, similar to the predecessor. On the software end, the predecessor and the successor run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Android 4.4 KitKat OS respectively, with MIUI on top of it.
Camera, Memory And Battery
The upcoming Redmi Note 2 will reportedly sport a solid 13 MP rear-facing camera unit with dual-tone, dual-LED flash and a 5 MP snapper at the front. On the other hand, the Redmi Note comes with the same camera configuration; however, it features only a regular LED flash.
With respect to the memory specification, the Redmi Note 2 will reportedly come housed with 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage capacity. At this point, there is no information available to ascertain the microSD card configuration of the upcoming handset. Meanwhile, the predecessor comes with only 8 GB of storage with microSD card for expansion up to 32 GB. Needless to say, the storage option is a deal breaker for many smartphone buyers. Moving on to the battery configuration, the upcoming Redmi Note 2 will feature a whopping 3,600 mAh unit, while the Redmi Note settles for 3,200 mAh.
Connectivity
Apart from the standard connectivity options, the Redmi Note 2 will apparently support quad-band GSM, quad-band WCDMA (3G HSPA+) and LTE FDD on 1800/2100/2600 MHz bands. On the other hand, the predecessor Redmi Note does not support LTE. Although, a new variant named Redmi Note 4G LTE was introduced later. In addition, the handset supports dual-SIM functionality by housing two micro-SIM slots, similar to the predecessor.
Price
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is reportedly priced at $249 for international customers. Meanwhile, interested readers can purchase the Redmi Note 4G LTE variant from Oppomart for $199.
