Xperia Z4v won't make it to U.S. market, says Sony & Verizon
Sony and Verizon Wireless have come to a mutual decision they won’t release the Xperia Z4v in the U.S. It looks like Sony would much rather focus on producing top-of-the-line gaming consoles.
Over the years, Sony has taken a bit of a back seat in the smartphone market, as pointed out by CNET. The company has been very successful producing PlayStation gaming consoles, however, but only very few tech users are actually well-aware Sony launches smartphones, too. That said, it would appear Sony needs to establish a stronger foothold in the U.S.
Now that Sony and Verizon are no longer launching the Z4v in the United States, the former’s ambitions of being recognized as a top smartphone provider in the U.S. have been thrown out the window, especially since Verizon Wireless also happens to be the country's biggest wireless carrier. It becomes apparent that Sony is, indeed, focused on its gaming department.
"The decision was made after we took into considering such factors as the competitive landscape and launch timing," stated the company spokeswoman. Verizon had these very same sentiments.
It was also previously reported the Xperia Z4v is also expected to have some problems once it comes out, especially with its huge battery and wireless charging capabilities.
When the device was first unveiled in June, both Verizon and Sony kept mum about it. The Sony event held in New York was also focused on PlayStation games, its new cameras and virtual reality technology. The Xperia Z4v didn’t get its fair share of the spotlight.
Plus, the Xperia Z5 series was also launched just last month. This line of smartphones has three new devices. The timeliness of their release rendered the Xperia Z4v relatively outdated before it was even launched.
