Those planning on buying a PS4 need to know these things before purchasing a PlayStation 4.

The PS4 is the first new PlayStation since 2006. So here are some PS4 features, limitations and minute details that potential buyers might need to know before they buy the console.

No IR Port

Basically, the PS4 will not be controllable with a universal remote because it does not have the IR port. Users might need to use the controller in hand to play, pause and skip tracks while they stream apps or use the Blu-Ray player. Also, they might need to use the PS4 app to be able to control the PS4 instead of using a universal remote.

No Component Cables

Users need a TV which accepts HDMI connections; otherwise, they need to have another TV to work with the PS4. The PS4 only supports optical and HDMI connections unlike the PS3 which works with component cables.

Paid PS4 Multiplayer Games

Sony requires a subscription to the PlayStation Plus to be able to play online with friends. There is one month free and then, players need to subscribe for $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year to continue playing online. The service includes free games for the PSP Vita, PS3 and the PS4.

Only 400 GB of Usable Storage

According to users who received the console earlier, there is only approximately 400 GB of usable storage space in the PS4. Game installs usually take about 30 to 40 GB of storage space per game; therefore, a user can only have a total of approximately 13 games. It is also worth to note that the PS4 does not support external hard drives but the built-in drive can be replaced with a 5400 RPM SATA II with more than 160 GB.

Play PS4 Games on the PSP Vita

Users can play PS4 games on the PSP Vita via Remote Play, but it only works on the same network. Although the PS4 Remote Play works on most of the PS4 games, users may have different gaming experiences on the bigger screen of a TV and on the small screen of the PSP Vita.
