Based on the recent reports, Apple might pull the plug of the iPad Mini series of tablets with the objective of concentrating on the upcoming and heavily-rumoured "iPad Pro" tablet. This speculation stems from Taiwan's Economic Daily News. Also, it is worth noting that the 12.2-inch iPad Pro will boast the largest display among Apple's tablets, released thus far.

Aforementioned, news site stated that the Cupertino based tech giant will discontinue the 7.9-inch iPad Mini starting next year. Meaning, the recently released Apple iPad Mini 3 is the last tablet in this line-up. According to the same source from Taiwan, this particular report originated from none other than the supply chain insiders belonging to the company, reports MacRumors.

Starting with the waning iPad sales figures reported this year and the general penchant for large-screened devices, reportedly, triggered Apple to take this step. Adding to the existing woes, tougher competition from Android tablets is also quoted to be one of the reasons to hang up the boots.

It is worth noting that, the Apple iPad Air 2 has recently been released with the latest A8 processor, Fingerprint sensor (Touch ID), thinner body and improved camera unit. However, the iPad Mini 3 has not gone through any major change, except for introducing the fingerprint scanner support. Needless to say, the reviews have not been very kind for the compact device from the tech world.

If reports are to be believed, the almost-nil update to the iPad Mini 3 is because of its declining popularity among other tablets. This report, again, corroborates the speculation surrounding the discontinuation of the iPad Mini device.

The Apple iPad Pro will reportedly come with a display size dangling somewhere between 12.2-inch and 12.9-inch, based on two different reports. Additionally, the iPad Pro will be relatively thicker when compared to the ultra-thin iPad Air 2. Plus, the tablet is believed to house stereo speakers and an ultra high-definition display. Earlier rumours suggested that, the iPad Pro will see the light of the day some time in the early 2015. However, new reports claim that the launch date is postponed to focus on the production work of the well-received and in-demand iPhone 6 Plus phablet.

Are you an iPad Mini fan? Which tablet will you switch over, if Apple discontinues the Mini device? Feel free to leave a comment.
