Apple Plans To Ditch 16 GB iPhones; iPhone 6S And Its Successors To Get 32 GB Or More Storage Capacity
Apple is reportedly planning to ditch the 16 GB iPhones and the company might come up with its new iPhone 6S and other forthcoming iPhones with 32 GB and more capacity. According to unconfirmed reports, this year’s models will come with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB of storage.
Sources of MIC Gadget at Foxconn revealed that the packaging of the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus do not bear the tag of “16 GB capacity”, rather all the models are either tagged with 32 GB or 64 GB or 128 GB storage capacity. This practice is not new in the smartphone industry. Though the 16 GB model is available as an option in very few flagship models, specific devices, namely, Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4 and HTC One M9 all start from 32 GB version, reports Digital Trends.
With the growing usage of digital music services and video streaming services, local storage is quintessential. While videos and photos are getting better in terms of quality and size, the modern apps, too, are getting bigger and demand more storage space. Taking cognizance of the current smartphone usage patterns among users, the phasing out of 16 GB model appears to be a justified decision, reports Digital Trends.
According to CNET, the iPhone 6S is likely to get a new processor, most likely, the A9 and will sport the same 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches screen sizes that is featured in the company’s current models. Besides that, a report on Bloomberg suggests that the new iPhone models will include a Force Touch display, which the company debuted with its Apple Watch and new MacBook.
Reports on iPhone 6S likely to get a Qualcomm developed LTE chip that would offer better battery life and faster web connectivity is already rife now. The iPhone 6S is likely to get a Qualcomm-developed chip known as the MDM9635M, which is also known as the “9X35” Gobi modem platform. The new chip assures to deliver significant improvements over the “9X25″ chip that currently does duty inside the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, reported 9 to 5 Mac. Though the iPhone 6S is not likely to get major changes in its exteriors, the internals of iPhone 6S frame get small changes, especially in the mounting points for the smartphone’s new logic board and components.
