Siri has officially started calling Caitlyn Jenner by her female name even when users refer to her as Bruce. Apple’s artificial intelligence feature for its iOS devices has begun to automatically refer to Jenner by her preferred female name.

USA Today has observed that when Siri is asked a question about Bruce Jenner, the program immediately responds by using Caitlyn instead of Bruce. Siri also automatically changes all pronouns into the feminine gender.

The same report also notes that Siri does make an exception when a question is asked about Caitlyn’s previous achievements as Bruce Jenner. As an example, once a question is asked about Jenner’s Olympic achievements, Siri does not switch to Caitlyn but instead gives a list of references that answer the question. Some of the articles still refer to Jenner as Bruce but others have already updated by saying that she is now known as Caitlyn.

It appears that Apple has taken into consideration Jenner’s request to be called Caitlyn. When she appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine on June 1, the caption implored the general public to refer to her by her female name through the caption “Call Me Caitlyn.”

The Vanity Fair Cover gave the world the first look at Jenner’s female persona since she officially announced her plans to transition into a woman. She made the admission in a Diane Sawyer interview back in April. Last Wednesday, July 15, Jenner made her first personal public appearance in front of thousands of her peers in the 2015 ESPY Awards.

She was given the Arthur Ashe Courage Award amid much controversy. The speech was witnessed by millions of viewers around the world. As one of the most high-profile transgender celebrities, Jenner has received both overwhelming support and a large amount of criticism. On the day of the ESPY Awards, Instagram needed to block the hashtag carrying her name in order to suppress negative posts.

Jenner and the rest of the LGBT community have a long way to go to gain acceptance but Siri clearly already has. Apple, the creators of Siri, have not made an official statement about the move.
