Apple unveils iPhone 6S with 3D Touch, Live Photos and A9 chip
Apple on Wednesday announced the new iPhones 6s and 6s Plus with a new dimension of Force Touch display, improved camera and better processor. Apple CEO Tim Cook kicked off the company’s most awaited fall event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.
The brand new and the most advanced iPhones introduce the next generation of Force Touch interface, which enables users to sense force in new ways to access features and interact with content. The revolutionary 3D Touch brings in all new ways to navigate and enable gestures through – Peek and Pop. One can move in and out of content with much ease.
In addition, 3D Touch provides an array of shortcuts with Quick Actions like taking a selfie by just tapping the Home Screen. The 4.7-inch 6S and the 5.5-inch 6S Plus come with Retina HD displays made from the strongest glass and 7000 series aluminium.
“The only thing that has changed with iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is everything — 3D Touch lets users interact with iPhone in entirely new and fun ways, and the innovative Live Photos brings your pictures to life,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in an official press release.
Apple’s third generation 64-bit chip A9 powers the devices with remarkably faster performance and the iOS 9 boosts battery life, enabling the device to run more features with lower battery consumption. Apple’s latest operating system brings in powerful search, redesigned Notes app, advanced fingerprint sensor and improved Siri features.
The new generation of iPhones will take images to the next level by introducing Live Photos, which is an Apple name for still photos with motion and sound. The upgraded 12MP photos which will allow users to relive the moments just before and after taking the shot was taken. Additional camera improvements include 12-megapixel iSight and 5-megapixel FaceTime HD cameras and a new image signal processor for sharper and detailed photos.
The 4K high definition videos with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 will appear sharper in low light with the expansion of optical image stabilisation. Moreover, the taken videos can be edited on Mac, PC or iPad. Apple said that with support from 23 LTE bands and Wi-Fi, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users can browse, download and stream content even faster.
There are new charging docks to match the colours of the iPhones with metallic finish, reports CNN Money. In addition, Apple has also designed leather and silicone cases in wide range of colours. For those who do not plan on using any cases for the new iPhones, the devices do come with a good array of colours, including silver, gold, space gray and rose gold.
Pre-orders will commence on Sep. 12. Beginning Sep.25, both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will go on sale in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK and the US.
In the United States, both the devices will be available for $0 down with 24 monthly payments starting at US$27 and $31, respectively, from Apple retail stores, Apple.com, select carriers and Apple-authorized resellers. The new iPhones will be available in 130 countries by the end of the year, reports CNET.
