Two likely feature upgrades for the iPhone 6S release date this 2015 were proposed this week. One came from a long-time Apple observer and another from a device concept that added a function that will soon get introduced via the Apple Watch.

Far from being confirmed but augmented reality functions might just make it with the next iPhone unboxing later this year. Also, digital crown, which is a key Apple Watch feature, is envisioned to boost the expected killer features that Apple will deploy with the iPhone 6 replacement.

Stylish augmented reality

Augmented reality on a mobile device appears to be on the horizon for Apple, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, adding that the company will integrate the technology with its fresh thrust of developing fashionable mobile products. Munster, per Apple Insider, pointed to experts in the virtual and augmented reality industries as sources of his information.

The analyst said on his report that a research and design team has been tasked by the tech giant to investigate on the matter. He noted too that the plan may not come into fruition very soon but some form of implementation could manifest that likely involves future iPhone models.

Prime applications of augmented reality are virtual and transparent displays or mobile mapping that in the near future could be included as fresh iPhone functionalities. This happening is not impossible as these technologies are supported by existing Apple Patents, according to Apple Insider, somehow indicating that the know-how already exists and could be in the process of being perfected.

But as always, patents, regardless if they have been approved or not by authorities and all set for implementation, are not solid indicators of upcoming killer iPhone features.

Digital crown

To borrow a feature, however, from a product within the same team increases the likelihood of making the final cut. Such is the case of an iPhone 6S concept from ADR Studio that 9to5Mac first picked up. The render author dreamed of an upcoming that shares one of the more notable Apple Watch components – the digital crown.

Located just above the power button on the right edge of the 6S, the crown looked like an unsightly addition. But ADR Studio reasons that the Sense Button, working with sensors, will afford iPhone users greater control of the device. The protruding key intelligently reads and interprets users’ gestures and movements, added the concept creator.

The final judge, however, of what exactly the iPhone 6S on final cut is Apple. Its answer will only be seen on the device’s release date in the second half of 2015.
