Mark Ruffalo has defended “Avengers: Age of Ultron’ director Joss Whedon after the latter received flak regarding the portrayal of Black Widow in the “Avengers” sequel. The fans have criticised the director for being biased towards Scarlett Johansson’s character.

According to Cinemablend they have termed her portrayal in the film as “underwhelming” and many fans have also tagged Joss on Twitter as a misogynist. Mark took to twitter and said in response to one of the tweets that said that Black Widow was shown just as a love interest who needed saving. Mark’s response to this tweet was, “Weird I thought he turned Banner into a love interest that needed saving.”

Mark also took part in Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session in which he said that it is not right that people are getting personal with Joss. He’s a deeply committed feminist ... I know it hurts him. I know it’s heavy on him. And the guy’s one of the sweetest, best guys and I know him -- as far as any man can be a champion for women, he is that.”

Black Widow and Hulk play love interest in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” In the film Scarlett’s character was introduced as she tended to the bar at Tony Stark’s apartment. She was shown making a drink for Hulk/ Bruce Banner as they two exchanged romantic glances. She was also shown yearning to lead a normal domestic life and taking part in a ballet as a child. Moreover, apart from Mark, “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn also came to Joss’s rescue and asked the fans to be more kind on the internet. He took to Internet and posted a plea on Facebook, which said that there are a few fans who get aggressive all the time, reported News.com.au.

Meanwhile, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” has made a killing at box office. The film had the second-highest grossing three-day U.S. debut, making $191.3 million. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and others.
