Joss Whedon recently teased the appearance of more villains in the “Avengers: Infinity War” films. Thanos will reportedly not be the only antagonist in the last two movies under phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Vulture’s Kyle Buchanan recently shared an excerpt of the interview he did with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” director Joss Whedon on his Twitter page. On his interview, the director commented on fans’ reaction not seeing Thanos in “Avengers 2.” He also hinted on the inclusion of more villains in the “Avengers: Infinity War” films.

Cinema Blend has listed down a couple of characters who may have possible roles as villains in “Avengers: Infinity War.” These characters include The Collector and Death.

Benicio Del Toro’s role as Taneleer Tivan, a.k.a. The Collector has been introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a couple of films already. He was first seen at the end-credits of “Thor: The Dark World” and was later given a supporting role in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” In the comics, Thanos and The Collector reportedly have a deep history together considering the latter is one of the Elders of the Universe.

According to Cinema Blend, in the MCU it would also seem like he and Thanos share the same goal and that’s to collect all six Infinity Gems. His interest in the gems could put him up against Thanos but it would ultimately also mean his being a villain in “Avengers: Infinity War” as he’s believed to be a threat to the Marvel heroes.

Thanos’ interest in the Infinity Gems is said to also be motivated by his intentions to win Death’s favour. Thanos wanting to destroy all life forms in the Universe is reportedly all for Mistress Death, so he can prove his love to her. “Presumably, The Avengers: Infinity War movies will delve into Thanos’ origin, and it’s here that we can meet Death personified, along with any other abstract entities from the comics the MCU chooses to include,” Cinema Blend writer Adam Holmes said.

Death is said to be so powerful that even the Avengers cannot defeat her. Death being Thanos’ love interest supposedly places her as a villain in “Avengers: Infinity War” and also considering that she’s reportedly responsible for all life forms to cease to exist.

According to Slashfilm, the character was even alluded to in a post-credit scene for “The Avengers”, when Thanos smiles after being told that challenging Earth’s heroes would be to court Death. Death was also speculated to be in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” when a likeness to the character’s image from the comics was seen in the second trailer. The cloaked woman in the cave reportedly has a resemblance to the character.
