'Black-ish' Season 1 Episode 21 Full Recap: The Peer-ent Trap

In this week’s episode of “Black-ish,” Andre and Rainbow Johnson need to hone their parenting skills. Their 15-year-old daughter Zoey is starting to act like a typical rebellious teenager and they need to figure out a strategy on how to handle her
When Andre catches Zooey driving a convertible without a license, he’s convinced that she’s going on a downward spiral. He tells Rainbow that they will probably end up with a daughter who will get pregnant and give birth in the toilet.
Rainbow thinks that Andre is overreacting and says that they should let their kids learn lessons on their own. Andre disagrees and says that he doesn’t want to raise their kids with a new age hippie upbringing just like Bow’s mother did to her. Pops agrees and says that it’s time for Andre to lay down the law.
Meanwhile, Andre Jr. thinks that Zoey is setting a bad example for the younger kids. Six-year-old Jack and Diane are confused about why Zoey is acting up but they seem to like what she’s doing more than Junior’s goody two-shoes approach.
Andre turns to his colleagues at work for some advice and they tell him to spy on Zoey’s social media accounts. He hacks into her phone and is appalled by the behaviour of her friends. Rainbow is disgusted by the invasion of privacy but she changes her mind when she sees a photo of Zoey holding a cigarette.
Rainbow ends up agreeing with Andre and the two of them call the kids to a family meeting. Andre lays down some new family rules and as he goes on with his list, Rainbow starts to feel like Andre is being ridiculous. She goes behind Andre’s back and connives with Zoey so that she could go out with her friends.
When Zoey breaks her curfew, Andre hacks her phone again and finds out that Rainbow has been going behind his back to connive with Zoey. When he confronts his wife, she tells him that he’s the scary parent and she wants to be approachable.
Andre disagrees that he’s scary but even his friends from work agree with Rainbow. Andre decides to go soft on Zoey to change his scary image. He lets her go to the spring formal and tries to tone down on being scary dad.
Pops tells Andre that he’s gone soft and he’s acting like a woman by letting Zoey go out after she broke her curfew. Luckily for him, Rainbow took over his role as the bad cop when she discovers that Zoey drove her car behind her back. Rainbow decides to ground Zoey and lays down the law exactly how Andre wanted in the first place.
The hilarious day-to-day life of the Johnson family continues every week on “Blakc-ish.” The show airs every Wednesday at 9:30 pm on ABC.
