BlackBerry Passport Pre-Registration Begins; Release Date Set for September; Full Set of Specifications and Features Listed

After a long hiatus, BlackBerry has something to flaunt and make an impact in the otherwise touch-screen crazy world. The BlackBerry Passport is the one-of-a-kind phablet with a physical QWERTY keyboard and a unique square design, instead of the ubiquitous rectangular design. The good news is that the BlackBerry Passport is now available for pre-registration. Also the Passport's release date is slated for September.

Interested readers and potential buyers who would like to get the first set of BlackBerry Passport phablets should pre-register for the device. The online pre-registration is open starting Aug. 7 in BlackBerry's official Web site, according to Phone Arena.

It is worth noting that, pre-registration is not pre-ordering per se. Upon pre-registering with the company's site, users are conveying their interest in the device. Therefore they will be informed when the BlackBerry Passport is ready for pre-order via mail.

When it comes to specifications, the unique BlackBerry Passport features a 4.5-inch square display with an interesting screen resolution of 1,440 x 1,440 pixels and 453 ppi pixel density. Notably, the display will be phenomenal with the aforementioned screen resolution and the high pixel density combination.

The Passport will reportedly be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with a whopping 3 GB of RAM. The handset is backed by a stupendous 3450 mAh battery unit. When it comes to OS, the BlackBerry Passport will run on BlackBerry 10.3 OS out of the box.

As mentioned earlier, the phablet will feature a 3-row physical QWERTY keyboard towards the bottom of the device. In addition, the keyboard doubles as a trackpad aka touch-enabled keyboard. However, the 3-rows of letters will not come with punctuation and numbers. These will appear as part of the virtual keys on the screen based on the context of typing. As an example, upon typing an email, users will see the "@" symbol on the virtual keys as part of the context.

Other specifications include 32 GB of internal storage and microSD card support for expansion up to 64 GB, 6 ounces in weight, nano-sim support, 13 MP primary camera and 2 MP secondary camera units. Also, the device will come in standard black and white colours.
