Boxing News 2015: Floyd Mayweather Sr. Says Mayweather-Pacquiao ‘Is On Its Way’
The father of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Floyd Sr. is stating that the highly-anticipated fight with Manny Pacquiao is well under way saying that the pair wouldn’t be “trading numbers” and talking if they won’t agree on the super fight tentatively scheduled on May 2, 2015.
“To me it makes no difference but I think the fight is going to take place. Otherwise, I don’t think him and Pacquiao would have took it this far, with trading numbers, you call me and I call you.” Mayweather Sr. said in an interview. “To me, I’ll be honest, that looks like a fight to me. It’s on its way.”
The assurance by the elder Mayweather should be a breathe of fresh air for the millions of fight fans who are waiting for the announcement of the super fight between two of the world’s top pound-for-pound boxers. Mayweather Jr. of the United States is currently holding a 47-0-0 (26 KOs) record while Pacquiao is at 57-5-2 (38 KOs); the undefeated American is ranked no. 1 in Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings while the Filipino pugilist is at no. 3. Ring Magazine is considered the bible of boxing by most sports fans and fight experts.
Mayweather Sr., who is part of The Money Team's "inner circle", admitted that “it would be very disappointing” if negotiations fails again and the pair don’t meet on top of the ring similar to what happened in 2010 when the talks of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight started and eventually did not happen. Mayweather Sr. added that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight is the ”biggest fight in the planet right now.”
Both sides have been relatively silent on the matter the past few weeks although Pacquiao has admitted that any announcement of the fight, if it is finalised, will come from Mayweather. Talks about the broadcasting details of the bout is purportedly on-going with some of details being ironed out.
