The Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight could finally be announced soon and according to a report from a reputable boxing writer, it could come during the National Basketball Association, or NBA, All-Star Game scheduled on Sunday.

“I’ve heard rumours that it could be announced during this weekend’s NBA All-Star game – maybe Les Moonves took my advice and brought in J. Prince to help convince Mayweather to finalise the deal,” Doug Fischer said in his “Dougie’s Friday mailbag” column when asked . “I agree that our sport needs to get over this ridiculous hump in order to show the public and the sports and business worlds that it isn’t a complete joke.”

Fischer is one of the prominent writer/columnists for Ring Magazine, which is widely considered the “Bible of Boxing”. In Ring Magazine’s top pound-for-pound rankings, Mayweather Jr. (47-0-0, 26 KOs) is ranked first while Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) is in third place.

Fischer also said that he is not “nearly as excited” as many are about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight but considers the prospective bout the “Fight of the Century” as most boxing observers would.

Curiously, Fischer also stated that he sees the the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight in 2015 as being more competitive as compared to a fight between the two if it happened in 2010. If it happened four or five years ago, Fischer believe that Pacquiao had a strong advantage during that time. While no deal is finalised, the tentative date is May 2, 2015 or during the Cinco de Mayo weekend date owing to Mayweather’s preference to fight on the said date. There are also reports that if the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is agreed upon, it will be the undefeated American who will be announcing the fight, as confirmed by Pacquiao himself.

The NBA All-Star Game this season is set to happen on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015. So aside from the powerful LeBron James’ dunks and Stephen Curry’s three-pointers, sports fans will also be anticipating an announcement of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, if Fischer’s prediction holds true.
