"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will be bringing Nuketown back, much to the delight of its loyal gamers. This particular map is one of the gaming franchise's most popular multiplayer maps.

Although Nuketown will be once again featured in the upcoming gaming instalment from Treyarch, Gamespot has noted that there will be some major changes. For instance, the map was completely reimagined to fit the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" setting, which is in the year 2065.

Fans were given a sneak peek of what the map might look like in the upcoming game, but it would appear to be nothing like how fans remember it from the franchise's previous instalments, according to Tech Times. Its offical name was even tweaked into Nuk3town, giving the map a more modernised appeal.

Despite the sudden revamp, avid "Call of Duty" gamers were reportedly not surprised. After all, developers have already previously revealed that "Black Ops 3" will be featuring a futuristic environment, which, in turn, also seem to indicate that the franchise has also evolved.

The new Nuketown map might be different, but it will still have some features that gamers have loved when it was first introduced, in addition to a new battleground that will reportedly permit players to take advantage of some newly added movement mechanics.

"We carefully adapted the design of the map to make sure that it fits with our new movement system, but to also mke sure that we retained the spirit and the fun that made fans fall in love with it in the first place," Treyarch's big boss, Mark Lamia, said in a press release.

Nuketown was first featured in the "Call of Duty" franchise in 2010. The map's setting was a typical suburban area, one that was used for nuclear testing during the 1950s, hence the name of Nuketown. Apparently, the quiet subdivision was used as a sample to show what would happen to residential areas after a nuclear attack.

Two years after that, the map was once again featured in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" in 2012. It was reimagined into Nuketown 2025. That very same year, the map was also used for "Cal of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified."
