“Star Wars Battlefront” is shaping up to be a formidable shooter that could very well compete with first-person shooter kings, “Call of Duty” and “Battlefield.” Since its announcement, developer DICE has already rolled out glimpses of a slew of features and modes that further hypes the game. Most recently, the new mode Drop Zone has been revealed, one that takes inspiration from the classic game mode that can be seen in other shooters.

The new mode is DICE’s take on King of the Hill, but it has given it a “Star Wars” twist. Drop Zone pits 16 players in a mode that allows them to take on the role of either the Rebel Alliance or the Empire. The objective is to defend pods that drop from the sky.

Posted via the official “Star Wars Battlefront” website, DICE fully explained the mechanics of how the new mode works. Players have to locate the pods once they fall, but the real actions begins when both teams begin securing the pods for themselves. If both teams fail to secure five pods after 10 minutes, the winner will be determined by a pod count. DICE states that Drop Zone is focused on fast-paced action and quick thinking.

"We're promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet," said lead level designer Dennis Brännvall in the blog update. "Camping doesn't really pay off."

Players will have a chance to try out the new mode once the beta for “Star Wars Battlefront” releases next October. As previously announced, players can gain access to and try out the multiplayer beta even without any pre-order requirements, VentureBeat reported.

Drop Zone joins other game modes for “Star Wars Battlefront” including Supremacy, Blast, Survival and Fighter Squadron. The sci-fi multiplayer shooter is due for a Nov. 17 release for the Playstation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
