EPL transfer news: Manchester City, United and Chelsea interested in Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski
Three teams from the English Premier League (EPL) are interested in striker Robert Lewandowski of Poland, according to a report, which also claims that the Polish striker wants to leave his current club in Bundesliga, Bayern Munich.
The Independent states that Chelsea and both Manchester squads City and United are ready to deal with Bayern Munich with hopes that they can lure the 27-year-old Lewandowski.
The same report noted that the top clubs in England were already looking at the Polish striker when he was available in 2014 after his stint with Borussia Dortmund where he played for 131 matches and produced 74 goals. With Bayern Munich, Lewandowski has scored 32 goals in 47 appearances in the past two seasons.
Lewandowski purportedly wants a change of scenery and wants to play for another top league like the EPL. Spanish La Liga’s Real Madrid and Barcelona are also reportedly in Lewandowski if he will indeed prefer a transfer from Bundesliga.
Before moving to Germany, Lewandowski played for Znicz Pruszków and Lech Poznań in the Polish league from 2006 to 2010. Lewandowski has also been a fixture with the Polish national team with 73 international caps with 34 goals for his country.
If the deal goes through, Lewandowski’s transfer will cost the club £70 million (AU$145 million).
Lewandowski’s Spanish coach Pep Guardiola is expected to be joining an EPL team after the season although no announcement of which English squad has been selected. Guardiola has been linked to Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.
“I agree that Pep would be perfect for Arsenal but despite the interest of Pep in the London team, I feel he might be going somewhere else," Spanish journalist Guillem Balague said to SkySports. “As it stands, he has not signed anything and both City and Chelsea think they have a good chance to get him.”
