Facebook Shuts Down ‘Who Deleted Me On Facebook’ App As It Violates Its Platform Policies
A new app on Facebook called ‘Who Deleted Me On Facebook’ that allowed users to know, who deleted them from their friends list has now been deleted. The app was developed by Exeter-based developer Anthony Kuske, according to reports.
The app has been removed from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and even the “Who Deleted Me” browser extension for Google Chrome, too is now defunct. Facebook asked the developer to remove the app for the violation of its platform policies, reports Global News. The publication quoted a Facebook spokesperson saying, “We take action against any app that violates our terms and policies.”
As per Facebook’s policy, developers must “respect the limits placed on Facebook functionality,” which also includes not intimating the users when someone ‘unfriends’ them.
The ‘Who Deleted Me On Facebook’ app was created to display Facebook users’ latest friends and the list of people they have selected to block, however, the app would have started tracking the friends who have unfriended you from the time users activate the app.
Explaining his point, Anthony Kuske, the creator of ‘Who Deleted Me’ said, “Unfortunately, due to a request by Facebook, Who Deleted Me is no longer available on any platform. If you have a Who Deleted Me browser extension or application installed it will no longer function.”
According to Kuske, ‘Who Deleted Me’ was meant to be a useful tool that would enhance users’ experience, however, “Facebook did not see it the same way.” As per a Digital Trends report, 'Who Deleted Me' app previously worked with Facebook but it was disabled in February.
The app gained a lot of popularity among Facebook users who were eager to know, who had ‘unfriended’ them. The app that could then be downloaded for free became the number one free downloaded app in the App Store generating a lot of traffic to the service. Due to increasing traffic, the service was turned offline as developers could not manage the growing traffic, as per the Global News report.
Kuske assured that all personal information, which was downloaded from users’ contact list from Facebook “has been securely erased”.
