Russell Brand's decision for divorce from Katy Perry not only shocked the whole of Hollywood and their fans, but it was quite a surprise for their friends as well.

It may not have been quite shocking as Kim Kardashian's 72-day marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries, but only 14-months of marriage was not what friends of Katy Perry and Russel Brand had in mind when the two tied the knot.

The two were described as being a "very affectionate" couple and the news of their divorce was the most shocking. "Arthur" star and English comedian, Russell Brand, filed a divorce from wife of 14-months, Katy Perry, last December 30 claiming "irreconcilable differences" as the cause to the split. Reports from close friends and family say otherwise claiming that the two appeared to seem "really in love."

"I was shocked when I found out," says a source close to the two in an interview by People.

"I was really surprised that Russell filed for divorce so quickly - especially at Christmas time." added the friend.

Indeed it was quite shocking and more baffling it seemed for the "Teenage Dream" singer who immediately took off for Barbados with celebrity best bud, Rihanna. While Perry soaked up her tears in the beach, Russell Brand spent the rest of his 2011 back home in London. Fans of the kooky couple expected more out of the marriage and 14-months, and it wasn't even close to the love they expected would last.

"I thought they would be together for a long time. Maybe not forever - but definitely not just 14 months," continues the source.

"They were always laughing. They were very affectionate, always holding hands. They seemed like they were really in love."

Well, everyone might have guessed otherwise, yet a lot are hoping that once Katy Perry makes her post-divorce appearance, she'll do more than showing her face at the People's Choice Awards. Some are saying the singer might even try to work things out with Brand.

"These aren't people who give up," shares a second source. "I always thought they would work on their marriage if they had trouble."

Here's to hoping Katy Perry has cleared her head enough to decide whether she'd let Russell Brand become "The one that got away."
