The Galaxy S5 is still cooking in Samsung's kitchen ready to be served on our plates possibly next year. Albeit early, smartphone fans have been comparing the Samsung Galaxy S5 to the current flagship smartphones in the market today, like the Galaxy S4, HTC One, Moto X, iPhone 5s and the Nexus 5. However, some still compares it to the Samsung Galaxy S3 as it remains a visible option even after 2 years from its release date.

Here is an early look to help you decide whether or not you should upgrade to the Galaxy S5 or you just hold on to your Galaxy S3.

Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a relatively old smartphone, which was released in May 2012. It is almost 2 years old and is already considered Jurassic for a smartphone. However, even with the anticipated release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, we do not expect it to vanish completely. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is already on its way to hit the shelves early next year. According to Gotta Be Mobile we expect to see the next flagship smartphone of Samsung to arrive within the first quarter of 2014.

Design

The Galaxy S3 was introduced with a curved yet elegant form factor while maintaining a thin and lightweight built. The 2012 Samsung flagship smartphone weighs 133g and checks in at 8.6mm thin. Furthermore, the Galaxy S3 is packed with a microSD card slot for memory expansion and a removable back for extending battery life, but then again, these are the same features that make the Galaxy S3 look cheaper relative to other smartphone competitors which come in metal designs.

Every year, Samsung makes tweaks to its designs; in fact the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4 are examples of this. As such, we expect the Galaxy S5 to come with some tweaks as well - like a metal built.

Display

The 4.8 inches 1280 x 720 resolution, 306 ppi screen of the Galaxy S3 is no longer at par with the current display technology of smartphones today. Essentially, the Galaxy S5 will have, at the very least, a 1080p display like its predecessor, the Galaxy S4. This means that it will sport a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a ppi count in the 400's.

Specs

Back in 2012, the Galaxy S3 came out packed with impressive specs which include dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 8MP sensor camera, 2GB of RAM and 2100 mAh battery. However, those were impressive back in 2012 and thanks to the fast - paced smartphone technology; those were left in the dust already.

Undoubtedly, as the nature of the smartphone game dictates, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be packed with mind blowing specs that will be much better than the Galaxy S3. Rumours suggest that it will have a 16MP camera with Auto Focus, 64-bit processor with quad-core chip, 3GB of RAM and 4000 mAh battery.
