Gaming News: 'Tales from the Borderlands' Details, Xbox One IP E3 Reveal and the Oculus Rift Legal Battle
With E3 is just around the bend, Xbox One is also putting up its share of teases of its plans for the Xbox One.
Sony has teased a new IP for the PS4 that's up for unveiling at the E3. This time, Microsoft is also teasing its brand new IP alongside another surprise for the event.
Phil Spencer, Xbox new boss, has teased gamers can expect not just a new IP but also a number of sequels at the E3. But that's not all. GameSpot has gathered his tweets about the event. It seems May will really be a good month to get into teasers prior to the E3.
So far, what's known is Microsoft will put hardcore gamers as a focus for the tradeshow event, where it's possible games from Japanese Xbox One games may be revealed and a potential release date for the "Minecraft: Xbox One" version. However, "Halo" fans won't be getting any updates, as Spencer has already announced beforehand he won't be divulging anything "Halo"-related, for now.
New Screenshots for 'Tales from the Borderlands' Teased
"The Walking Dead" developer Telltale Games has been at the helm of "Tales from the Borderlands," one of the newest games from the "Borderlands" franchise. And the effort the developer has put into the game has finally born fruit, as the first set of screenshots made their way to the PlayStation Blog.
"Gearbox's world is huge. The main Borderlands games and the DLC have only scratched the surface; they've built a world that rivals Star Wars in its richness. That sounds like crazy hyperbole, but the details, the characters, and the history are all there. You just haven't seen it all yet," said Adam Sarasohn, producer at Telltale Games to PlayStation Blog.
What's more, the developer gives a few details on what to expect from the title, the first of which is the promise "Tales from the Borderlands" will be a unique experience, as it makes use of what Telltale Games does best: telling stories.
Imagine exploring the world of Pandora and taking its wealth of characters into a whole new level and in the same treatment as "The Walking Dead."
"Tales from the Borderlands" will still feature a lot of looting—the prizes of which gamers can use for other "Borderlands" franchise. It will also be an episodic series available individually or with a Season Pass. The two lead characters will be the players' varying viewpoints. Their own perspective and decision will also be coloured by the opinions and attitudes of the characters.
Oculus Rift's New Issue: Accusations About Stealing IP?
Even before the Oculus Rift got into the hands of gamers, the virtual reality device has been faced with a number of issues and criticisms. There's the issue of the Oculus Rift being bought by Facebook, which did not appease most of the fans who have thought the VR technology was going to be a games-first platform.
Now, the VR headset maker is back in rather deep scrutiny, as complaints have been filed for what is supposed to be an accusation of Zenimax for possible stealing of its core technology by Oculus Rift.
In particular, PC World reports the supposed theft of idea is directed at John Carmack, a previous employee at Zenimax's id Software, who had coded the Oculus while employed in the company. And this has led to the accusation that Oculus Rift has stolen intellectual property from Zenimax.
"We are disappointed but not surprised by Zenimax's actions and we will prove that all of its claims are false," said Oculus Rift in a statement quoted by PC World. "There is not a line of Zenimax code or any of its technology in any Oculus products," the developer added.
For Oculus Rift's part, it is saying Zenimax's claims didn't exist even though the source code for Oculus has been available online for examination and had only surfaced after the Facebook acquisition happened.
The issue may be looking at a longer time frame for resolution, which hopefully, will not affect the release of the device to the public.
