‘Gears of War’ Remaster For Xbox One Leaked, Details On Multiplayer And Framerate Included
The eighth generation of home consoles is already home to a fair number of last-generation remastered, including titles in the “Borderlands,” “Devil May Cry” “God of War” franchises, to name a few. Recent rumours have hinted at the possibility of an “Alan Wake” remaster, and now it appears the Redmond-based publisher is gearing up for a remake of another one of its tent-pole properties with a remaster of the original “Gears of War” for Xbox One.
News of the remaster comes initially from Polygon, who claim to have been informed of the remaster by unnamed sources. The publication adds that they’ve seen multiplayer screenshots which show off enhanced lighting and higher resolution textures, adding that the multiplayer version runs at 60fps. Polygon states that both newly formed Microsoft Studio, Black Tusk and long-time multiplayer experts, Splash Damage are working on the game, with job listings on the latter’s official website indicating they’re looking to hire staff to work on a very well known and highly popular AAA title with next gen technology.
Kotaku follows up with an actual screenshot taken from the game’s menu. They go on to state that a multiplayer-only test build of the game is currently being played by certain individuals. Kotaku adds that the current build features the following game modes: Team Deathmatch; King of the Hill; 1 Life 1V1 Shotgun TDM; 1v1 Sudden Death Gnashers Only; 4v4 TDM Single Round; and 4v4 KOTH Single Round.
As noted by Gamespot, head of Xbox division,Phil Spencer has in the past expressed a desire to return to the roots of the franchise. In the comments picked up by the publication in relation to continuing the franchise on Xbox One, Spencer said he felt that latter sequels lost their way, eventually becoming a parody, and stated that the studio had to get back to the core of the franchise.
“The thing that was great about the early ‘Gears of War’ games, to me, was just the epic scale of the settings that I was in. The story, the setting was a lot more what I would call soulful and maybe even a little dark,” he said.
While it may seem an odd choice on the surface, a remaster of the original game allows Black Tusk, a relatively new development studio, to get to grips with the not just the Xbox One hardware and Unreal Engine 4. but the basic gameplay mechanics that form the core foundations of the “Gears of War” franchise.
