The upcoming LG G4 may not be the monster device that Android fans have been dreaming about as latest reports indicated of underwhelmed on-board CPU. As such, building the Google Nexus 2015 phone around the LG flagship on release date could prove a bad idea after all.

The power behind the G4, according to G4Games, is a six-core Snapdragon 808 and not the 810 that fans have been hoping for. If true, the switch was hardly surprising as the 810 chipset has been reportedly plagued by overheating issues, which likely prompted LG to downgrade in order to deliver its first 2015 flagship on time.

Now the question begs: Will Google still use the LG G4 or look elsewhere for a better and mightier base-model for its 2015 signature phone? Or will the tech giant consider instead the rumoured LG G4 Note?

Premium G4 Note

Speculations so far on the G4 Note suggest of a Samsung model – the device will boast of upgraded specs and features in the same way that the Galaxy Note 5 is expected to out-specced the Galaxy S6 before it. While no details have been confirmed to date, the understanding is the device will be bigger than the regular LG G4 with more premium build.

While the G4 will likely come in plastic casing its giant sibling, the G4 Note, will be house in metal and glass, making the latter a high-end device. And unlike the G4, the G4 Note has a better of chance of using the more capable Snapdragon 810 as the LG phablet is reportedly slated to rollout in the last few months of 2015. By which time, Qualcomm is expected to have resolved to 810 overheating problem.

If not, the Snapdragon 820 could present itself as an option for both LG and Google. The next-generation application processor from Qualcomm is rumoured to break out later this year with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 as among the first recipients of its might and prowess. For sure, Google would want the next Nexus phone to surpass what the Note 5 can offer to Android fans and taking advantage of the powers afforded by the most advanced Snapdragon CPU is a good place to start with.

But then again, the LG G4 getting the Snapdragon 808 remains a rumour, G4Games clarified, so nothing is final on the matter at this stage though the confirmation will come on April 28. As for the Nexus 2015 release date, the moment of truth is pegged to happen between October and November this year.
