Battlefield 4: The tradition of teamwork
Battlefield 4 has been very proud of its heritage as a teamwork game, and with teaser of the multiplayer rolling out before the big day at Gamescom 2013, its Ask DICE segment on the official Battlefield Blog has given some answers to burning questions from fans.
Overall Battlefield 4 is set to support 24 players on its current-gen console gameplay, and depending on the game mode, can be increased with an addition of two commanders.
Next-gen gameplay brings a vast improvement, with support for 64 players on the Xbox One and PS4, as well as the PC, and it will also have the additional two commander players depending on the game mode.
In response to the types of forces one can play in multiplayer, DICE replies, "The playable factions in multiplayer are Russia, China, and the U.S."
Mltiplayer also allows you to enjoy Levolution at its finest, with one of the main highlights being the siege of Shanghai, which shows off the destruction of the skyscraper through teamwork.
"Battlefield 4 will feature game-changing destruction on a whole new scale with a concept we call Levolution-this is what you're seeing when the skyscraper in Siege of Shanghai is destroyed," said DICE. "These game changing events not only affect the player's tactics but also the visual identity of the map. And what's most important, it's you triggering these things to happen."
If that's not enough of a teaser, DICE has also released the official Battlefield 4 trailer for Gamescom, where you will find the one player who has received the right to be featured in the trailer after clocking in 8,000 hours of the game.
In the video he says, "Battlefield 4 at Gamescom; I will be there, will you be there, too?"
Call of Duty: Of game modes and women
Shooter games are usually associated with men-what with all the adrenaline of shooting at other players or causing explosions left and right. But this time, developer Infinity Ward may be putting the FPS game Call of Duty: Ghosts on a more feminine angle, with the introduction of female soldiers.
In the official multiplayer gameplay trailer, you can only see a clear glimpse of the female soldier before the trailer closes off to a finish, but female soldiers are a definite addition that gamers, albeit both guy and gals alike, can look forward to.
This is a full step that Activision is taking its franchise in, and while it took so long, the creators had finally added the other gender into the equation of war. And the reason for the delay was mostly technology.
Speaking with Kotaku, Mark Rubin, Ghosts executive producer, said, "Our previous engine would not handle that. The way memory worked in the previous engine, it never would have been able to do that. When we got a chance to re-tool the engine completely, that gave us the opportunity to make the change that we could have character customisation. That then gave us the opportunity to do female characters."
But with the ability to customize soldiers this time around, it seems that female soldiers can just as easily jump into battle all right and ready for some shooting.
The multiplayer pretty much gives a good picture of what you can expect in the game. There's customisation, squad building, and game modes including Search and Rescue, where you need to recover dog tags and keep your teammates in the action or send enemies to the bench, or Cranked, where you need to kill within the next 30 seconds or end up being blown to bits.
Expect new arsenal, close combats, and the very obvious nod to the female soldiers soon joining the squad-all of which are played with in tune with an unreleased single from Eminem to get that COD adrenaline rush coming.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is coming to current gen on November 5 and for next-gen Xbox One and PS4 when the console release this holiday season.
