'Homeland' Season 5 Update: Carrie's Life To Look 'Really Good,' But Only For A Short While
“Homeland” Season 5 will see Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who is estranged from CIA and on a self-imposed exile, working at a private security firm in Germany. Director and executive producer of “Homeland” Linka Glatter recently revealed some details about the upcoming new season. She said that for a short while, Carrie’s life will seem good but this illusion does not last for long.
“Homeland” Season 5 will see a time jump, picking up two years after the events of the previous season. As previously reported, there is a new man in Carrie’s life. He is a lawyer called Jonas Happich, played by Alexander Fehling.
“When we meet Carrie, now at the beginning of Season 5, at least for a short while her life seems really good. She's out of the CIA, she's working at the NGO,” Glatter told Indiewire. “She's using her skill set, you know, of what she's always used, but it's not within the CIA, and she has a relationship, which seems pretty balanced.” However, this lasts for only a short while as things do not work out the way it seems, according to Glatter.
Glatter also revealed that in January “Homeland” team met the CIA people to discuss Season 5. The major issues that they discussed were Russian President Putin, ISISI and cyberterrorism. The new season is expected to deal with the events that are related to these issues, including the events that are taking place in the Middle East.
Alex Gansa, showrunner of “Homeland,” told The Hollywood Reporter that they will be in Europe telling the story of what is going on in the Middle East, Syria, Iraq and Ukraine. He added that “it’s all going to be part of the world she's (Carrie) in.”
In addition to the new man in Carrie’s life, the new season is set to introduce a set of new characters, including Carrie’s German boss who is also a philanthropist. Sebastian Koch is playing this German boss, while Sarah Sokolovic has signed on to play American journalist. Happich and the journalist are colleagues at the Düring Foundation. Miranda Otto is playing Berlin’s chief of station, Allison Carr, a series regular character. Carr is reportedly working directly under Saul (Mandy Patinkin).
