iPhone 6 Release Date In Q3 As TSMC To Produce Fingerprint Sensor In Q2

iPhone 6 release date may happen in the third quarter of the year. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will start manufacturing the TouchID fingerprint sensor for the next iPhone in the second quarter, according to report.

DigiTimes cited industry sources saying TMSC will take the helm in developing the fingerprint sensors for the next Apple's iPhone at 12-inch fab using a 65 nm process in the second quarter of 2014. The shift from 8-inch fab to 12-inch fab will bring product's efficiency. TSMC is reported to handle the packaging process for the sensors rather than hiring another company to do it.

Consumers can expect a more efficient fingerprint sensor in iPhone 6 compared with iPhone 5S. The TouchID fingerprint sensor is reported to get a facelift as it will add more features and capabilities.

Fingerprint sensor was claimed one of the factors of iPhone 5S' tight supplies. Reports said slow manufacturing from packaging companies contracted by Apple slowed down the yields that directly affected the delivery.

If TMSC will start manufacturing fingerprint sensor in the second quarter, we can assume that iPhone 6 release date will most likely take place in the third quarter of the year. This coincides with the whispers that iPhone 6 will arrive in September.

Previous reports said two iPhones will be launched this year. An iPhone phablet is on its way, which will start a new iPhone line and will be launched in May. The iPhone phablet will boast a 5.7-inch or bigger screen display but will be powered by iPhone 5S's 64-bit A7 processor, according to reports.

Meanwhile, another iPhone or the successor of iPhone 5S will arrive in iPhone's usual release schedule in September. The smartphone will pack 4.7-inch screen display and A8 processor. To the dismay of many, reports said iPhone 6 will have the same 8 MP back camera. However, Apple has confirmed none of these rumors yet. Other features that iPhone 6 will come with are curved or flexible screen with liquidmetal and Sapphire glass covering, an improved Siri and gestures control based on Apple patents found.
