The Samsung Galaxy S4 is undoubtedly the best Galaxy S smartphone in the market today but soon it will be replaced by the next flagship smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S5. With its powerful hardware and software the Galaxy S4 is expected to remain as an appealing option in 2014 and beyond. The question is, should you get the Galaxy S4 or should you wait for the iPhone 6 next year?

Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy S4 was released back in April and it is already almost a year old but is expected to remain in the shelves until the iPhone 6 release, which could possibly happen either in the summer or the fall.

Design

Other flagship smartphones in the market today, particularly HTC and Apple have shifted to premium metal built, Samsung, on the other hand has kept its plastic design. Apart from the removable back for extended battery life and microSD card slot, Samsung kept its plastic design because it fosters fast paced production.

The Galaxy S4 design is easier to grip, durable and it feels more premium than other Samsung smartphones in the market today. It is incredibly thin and lightweight as it checks in at 7.9mm thin and it weighs 130 grams.

At this point, the iPhone 6 remains a mystery but rumours suggest that it will feature a larger screen. It is expected to have a more premium build unlike the Samsung Galaxy S4 however; we don't expect Apple to incorporate a removable back or microSD card slot.

Display

There is no question that the Samsung Galaxy S4 has one of the best displays on the market today. In fact, it is arguably better than the Retina display of the iPhone, with its 5 inches display, 1080 resolution and high ppi.

Although nothing is made official yet, 2014 appears to be the year Apple finally launches an iPhone with larger and improved screen. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple will introduce an iPhone with a big screen in its next flagship device, which could be the iPhone 6. Rumours say that it could be a 4.5 to 5 inches display. Moreover, according to the NPD Display Search, which predicted the Retina Display of the iPad 3 Apple is working on two sizes - 4.7 inches 1280 x 720 display and 5.7 inches 1920 x 1080 display.

Specs

The killer specs of the Galaxy S4 will surely bring it competitive to other new devices next year. Although the 13MP won't be in the limelight already, it will still take solid photos and videos. Its Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor supplies more than enough power for the average smartphone user. Furthermore, it packs a solid 2GB of RAM and a massive 2600 mAh battery.

On the other hand, we expect more from the iPhone 6 being a 2014 flagship device. More likely, it will feature everything the Samsung Galaxy S4 offers or even better. Like the iPhone 5, it might also have a 64-bit processor. The camera is expected to be improved even though the camera of its predecessor is already one of the best cameras in the market today. Its battery is expected to remain one of the best as Apple is known to have iDevices with long battery life. And the same TouchID fingerprint is expected to be inside the home button of the iPhone 6.
