Ivanka Trump starts to get involved in White House life
Ivanka Trump has started White House life nearly three weeks since her father has taken office. She has accompanied the US President Donald Trump on a trip to Delaware to pay respects to the family of a fallen service member and was spotted at the East Wing of the White House with her son.
The first daughter is starting to get involved with his father’s agenda as the two paid respect to a US Navy SEAL who died in a raid on al Qaeda in Yemen earlier this month. It was the first military operation that Trump has authorised since he became the commander-in-chief.
The father and daughter tandem travelled to Dover Air Force Base to personally meet the family of chief special warfare operator William “Ryan” Owens. They left the White House using the presidential helicopter.
On Wednesday, Ivanka posted a photo of her with her 10-month-old son, Theodore, at the East Wing. “Taking a call in the White House with my personal assistant Theodore,” she captioned.
While Ivanka currently does not have a formal role in the new administration, she plans to utilise her national platform as first daughter to continue pushing for women empowerment. CNN has learned that she has called members of Congress about legislation to promote for a more affordable child care last year.
Top White House adviser Kellyanne Conway has shared that the president’s daughter is one of Trump’s closest confidants. She would urge him to act more presidential and even helped him pick his running mate, now US Vice President Mike Pence.
"Ivanka Trump was in a very unique position to give her father voice in choosing a vice presidential running mate. Because she knows what Donald Trump expects," Conway said.
Ivanka works for the real estate development of the Trump Organization. It is likely that she will continue to work for her father’s company. Her husband, Jared Kushner, on the other hand, is her father’s senior adviser.
She has shared in her 2009 memoir that her father wanted his children to do hands-on work and get to know people and processes. "Even when we were kids, there was talk around the dinner table about how we all might join the family business some day," she wrote.
Meanwhile, Trump has debunked speculations that his 35-year-old daughter will be the "real" first lady, calling that observation "inappropriate." He said there is only one first lady, referring to wife, Melania.
