Kate Middleton Could Still Give Birth To Baby No. 2 At St. Mary’s Despite Deadly Bacteria Discovered At The Hospital
Reports of the Duchess of Cambridge possibly not giving birth to her second baby At St. Mary’s Hospital were revealed after a superbug was discovered at the hospice. However, according to sources Kate Middleton is still set to deliver baby no. 2 at the hospital’s private Lindo Wing.
Eight patients in the Zachary Cope Ward at St Mary’s Hospital were reportedly found to have carried the superbug called CPE (carbapenemase producing enterobacteriaceae). A spokeswoman for the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust told Mirror UK that the ward, which specialises in vascular surgery, “is temporarily not taking new admissions” after a small number of vascular patients were carrying a micro-organism in their gut. The Zachary Cope Ward has reportedly been closed since April 15 as it is said to be undergoing deep cleaning.
The bacteria, which can be a deadly cause of infections in the bloodstream and urine, became a source of concern for royal followers considering it was found at the same hospital where Kate Middleton is expected to give birth to baby no. 2. However, according to News.au, there’s no news of the bacteria having spread to the Lindo Wing so the Duchess of Cambridge may still likely deliver her newborn there. Furthermore, the private wing is said to be located at a far distance from the Zachary Cope Ward, as it is across a road from the main hospital.
“There’s no suggestion it could spread to other units but it couldn’t be worse timing,” a source said. Likewise, three of the affected patients, who developed a local infection from the bacteria, have already recovered. Continuous screening of patients is also being conducted at the St. Mary’s Hospital up to its patients in the eighth-floor ward.
Kate Middleton is expected to deliver her second baby anytime soon. There were previous reports of the Duchess of Cambridge giving birth on April 25. However, as her pregnancy drags on so does the security at the Lindo Wing. According to Mirror UK, royal guard is even elevated to police sniffer dogs having been deployed around the area, while police helicopters hover above the hospital.
