Manny Pacquiao Says Things Are Looking ‘Positive’ About Mayweather Fight, Adds That Mayweather’s Camp Will Make The Announcement
For the past couple of months, a number of “small but significant issues” has stalled the negotiations about the super fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Even though both fighters have already expressed their earnest desire to fight each other, a deal has yet to be finalised. Now, things are looking up after Pacquiao has revealed that the negotiations about the super fight are improving.
In a recent interview with local news outlet GMA News TV’s Balita Pilipinas Ngayon during the groundbreaking ceremony for his church in his hometown General Santos City, Pacquiao asserted that the Mayweather fight is looking “positive.” He insisted that he is only waiting Mayweather’s signature on the contract.
Pacquiao was cautious to spill all the details about the Mayweather fight. He also said that Mayweather’s camp is the one that will make the announcement should fight come to fruition.
“I am not the one who will announce the fight,” Pacquiao said. “Mayweather is the one who will make the announcement.”
In another interview with Filipino journalist Jay Dayupay of ABS-CBN News, Pacquiao further confirmed that the talks are going well at this moment. According to the report, Mayweather also called Pacquiao on Feb. 9. However, Pacquiao didn’t reveal the details of the conversation. He only said that the chat went well and that he expects an announcement to be made within the week.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee has expressed her full support for the much-anticipated mega-buck fight between her husband and Mayweather. She said that it is the fight that the boxing world wants to see and hopes that it will finally come true.
Pacquiao’s mother Dionisia, on the other hand, said that she hopes that Pacquiao’s next fight will be his last fight. She said that she doesn’t want her son to sacrifice his health for boxing.
The super fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather has been laid on the discussion table as far back as 2009. Following Pacquiao’s victory over Chris Algieri in November, the eight-division Filipino world champion has started calling out on Mayweather to make the fight happen. Mayweather has already challenged Pacquiao to fight on May 2, but issues involving the TV networks that will broadcast the fight have stalled the negotiations in recent weeks. With Pacquiao’s recent claims, do you think there is a big chance that the super fight will finally take place?
